The Town Rangers play a crucial role in advancing the Town Council’s objectives of enhancing environmental standards, promoting community safety, maintaining cleanliness, and promoting the well-being of the town.
As key members of the Operations Team, the Town Rangers are responsible for a wide range of tasks related to maintaining and improving the town’s facilities, services, and events.
How Town Rangers Make a Difference
1. Responding to Incidents: React promptly to incidents of graffiti, vandalism, flyposting, or general untidiness in the town. Coordinate or carry out necessary cleaning, removal, or repairs.
2. Open Spaces Maintenance: Conduct grounds maintenance activities such as planting, minor landscaping, weed clearance/spraying, and leaf collection across the town.
3. Public Rights of Way: Regularly inspect public rights of way, ensuring they are clear and usable by cutting back brambles and weeds. Perform minor repairs and landscaping works as needed.
4. Signage and Street Furniture: Clean identified signage and street furniture and undertake maintenance repairs as required.
5. Litter Responsibilities: Undertake litter picking duties and manage waste bin responsibilities. Identify areas prone to littering and ensure cleanliness by collecting and disposing of litter/waste.
6. Grounds Maintenance: Work with the Estate Specialist to perform general grounds maintenance tasks for outdoor areas under the responsibility of the Town Council
7. Playground Maintenance: Repair, maintain, clean, and conduct safety checks on play equipment in Town Council-owned playgrounds.
8. Property Maintenance: Work with the Property Leads to perform various maintenance tasks, repairs, and refurbishments on Town Council buildings as necessary.
9. Community & Civic Events: Actively participate in the operational and logistical elements of the Town Council’s annual program of events.
10. Community Facilities: Assist with community initiatives such as speed indicator notices, grit bins scheme, and addressing community issues
11. Maintain the notice boards around the Town.
12. Environmental Action: Support the delivery of the Town Council’s Environmental Protection and Carbon Reduction Plan.
13. Community Engagement: Engage with community and volunteer groups to coordinate practical activities and tasks, while also interacting with the public to identify areas where the Town Ranger Service can provide assistance and support.
14. Equipment Maintenance: Ensure vehicles, machinery, and tools are well-maintained, clean, and safe.
15. Health and Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures to manage risks related to staff, services, equipment, and public protection.
16. Quality Standards: Perform all tasks safely and proficiently, maintaining high standards. Utilise appropriate tools, equipment, and techniques for quality outcomes.
17. Additional Duties: Undertake any other duties as necessary, contributing to the overall success of the Operations Team.
